PANIC ATTACK SYMPTOMS:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pains
  • Feeling nauseated
  • Dizziness
  • Sweating
  • Hyperventilation
  • Light-headedness
  • Tingling sensations (paresthesias)
  • Feeling faint
  • Racing heart

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STRESS, ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACKS

Along with these symptoms, the sufferer is often over-run with a sense of fear, whether it's a fear of dying, having a heart attack or merely going crazy, this intense fear can feel completely overwhelming. They also feel out of control, like being on an emotional roller coaster. The most predominant panic attack symptoms, as already mentioned, are shortness of breath and chest pains. The mixture of fear that the sufferer is feeling along with these other symptoms, often leads them to mistakenly think that they are having a heart attack which makes the panic worse.

If you have high levels of anxiety and stress, panic attacks are more likely to occur. The more stressed you are, the more anxiety you have which means you become more tightly wound up and any sudden increase in anxiety or stress levels can trigger a panic attack.
Your mind is monitoring your state all of the time to see when you may need your fight or flight response Understanding Stress When it sees that your situation is nearing potential life-threatening levels, it will provide you with a panic attack which is the body’s answer to the perfect state for survival.
This does not mean that your situation is actually life-threatening. This response comes from the primitive part of your brain and happens because of your high levels of anxiety, or because your brain spots a pattern in your environment which is similar to one where you had to previously react in the ‘fight or flight’ way.
